Project Description

“Determine the lead prototype/concept to move forward with”

THE CONTEXT OF THE RESEARCH

A world leading surgical device company commissioned UniqueView to gather feedback from different key hospital staff about a prototype surgical device they are had developed and were hoping to bring to market. Through a set of in-depth interviews they hoped to determine the lead prototype/concept to move forward with and, also, to optimize instructions for use (disassembly, cleaning, sterilization and assemble) based on user feedback (to include packaging concepts for each prototype). They were looking to observe users as they assemble/clean the device and understand how the concept resonates with OR directors/purchasers and how acceptance would be perceived at their facility.

OVERVIEW

In-depth interviews with 12 key hospital staff across 3 cities were conducted.

IDI

Our recruiters were required to find the appropriate hospital staff for each of three categories to interview. Our recruitment networks in hospitals, built up over many years, gave us access to key staff within the required departments from which further networking and snowballing could be used to recruit the best fits for the interviews.  As a result, our consultants performed 12 in-depth interviews across 3 cities for this phase of the project. The aim of those interviews was to get knowledgable views on what is the best prototype being presented and to understand through observation how these respondents use the device. Therefore, we targeted key staff familiar with, either, the previous model of the device or a similar device from a different company to get as much quality information as possible.

CONCLUSION

The results of this survey gave our client clear views how their potential customers feel about their new prototype and how would be use the device and which was the most preferred prototype. Recommendations to help our client with optimizing instructions for use (disassembly, cleaning, sterilization and assemble) were also given based on respondents feedback from using the prototypes.
